Privacy Policy

Last updated 17 October 2026

This policy explains what personal information ShelfScout ("we", "us") collects, why, and what you can do about it. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.

What we collect

  • Account details: your name, email address and a scrambled (hashed) version of your password. We never store your password itself.
  • Workspace data: your workspace and team members, watchlists, saved searches, comparisons and the questions you ask the AI Product Hunter with its answers.
  • Billing details: your plan, subscription status and billing history. Card details are collected and stored by Stripe, not by us.
  • Usage and technical data: monthly counts of AI questions and exports (used to apply plan limits), a record of exports and billing changes, and the logs our hosting provider keeps, such as IP address, browser type and request times.
  • Messages: anything you send to support@useshelfscout.com.

We don't collect sensitive information and don't ask for it.

How we use it

  • to create your account, sign you in and run the service;
  • to process payments and apply your plan's limits;
  • to answer your questions and send service messages, such as billing notices and changes to our terms;
  • to keep the service secure, fix problems and improve it.

We don't sell personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.

Who we share it with

We use these providers to run ShelfScout. They process information on our behalf and only for that purpose:

  • Vercel hosts the app.
  • Neon hosts our database.
  • Stripe processes payments and stores card details.
  • Anthropic runs the AI Product Hunter. When you ask a question, the text of your question and the product data needed to answer it are sent to Anthropic to generate the reply.
  • Google (Gmail) and our domain registrar Namecheap handle email sent to support@useshelfscout.com.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights or the safety of others.

Information stored overseas

These providers store and process data outside Australia, mainly in the United States. We choose providers with strong security practices, but overseas laws may differ from Australian law.

Cookies

We use one essential cookie to keep you signed in. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and workspace data while your account is open. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete it within 30 days, except billing records, which we keep for as long as tax law requires (generally 5 years). Server logs are kept for a short period by our hosting provider.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit, passwords are hashed, and access to production systems is limited. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us for a copy of your personal information, to correct it, or to delete your account by emailing support@useshelfscout.com from the address on your account. We reply within 30 days.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we handled your information, email us first and we will try to resolve it. If you are still not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Changes

We may update this policy and will tell you about important changes by email or in the app.
